This is a powerful secret society of divine feminine energy in the ancient Yoruba tradition of Ifa. The Iyami also consists of male elders. The Gelede festival is a day designated to honor their power, dominance, and influence in both the spiritual and physical worlds. The Iyami harness immense power and bestow both good or evil. Making regular offerings are necessary for consistent protection. A spiritual consultation prior to invoking the Iyami is imperative. It is also highly recommended for those needing routine invocations and appeasements to the Iyami to have had their Idafa and Hand of Ifa completed.
